Our journey starts from 1931, when in response to Mahatma Gandhi’s call for Swadeshi during the struggle for freedom the Lalbhai family founded Arvind Mills, creating a capacity to compete with the world’s finest textile mills. Established for the Indian market, in 1985 Arvind started firmly shifting its focus to international markets. 1990s, a time of liberalisation in India, boosted Arvind’s expansion. It commissioned a modern fabric manufacturing facility spread over 450 acres in Santej with a capacity of 34 million meter to cater to the global market. Over the next 20 years, Santej became recognized as the benchmark for sustainable practices in the textile industry across the world. With emerging globalisation in the 2000s, Arvind brought in some of the biggest global fashion brands like Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Gap, Ed Hardy, Hanes, Nautica and Elle to India. Early 2000s was also the time when Arvind diversified into real estate, water management and manufacturing composites & technical textile.
